Open Data Aberdeen

Welcome to Open Data Aberdeen, the open data portal for Aberdeen (Scotland). This portal has been developed by Aberdeen City Council to help establish a culture that develops and enhances digital capability in the north east of Scotland. The portal is an instance of the CKAN web-based system for the storage and distribution of open data.

Before you make use of this portal, please take time to read the Open Data Aberdeen Code of Conduct and the Terms & Conditions that apply.

Anyone can access this portal and view or download the published open data. If you register as a user you will also have access to submit data requests and follow datasets. See the Privacy Policy for more information on registration.

The Data

Opening up public sector data is the right thing to do in terms of transparency, accountability and efficiency. Open data has the potential to encourage new commercial opportunities, drive economic growth, and inspire innovation. This portal has been developed to facilitate easy access to public sector open data, making it available for reuse and redistribution.

Currently the data available on the portal is provided by Aberdeen City Council. This is the raw data that drives the organisation and its services. The data is provided in various different formats, depending on the content. The data is not of a sensitive or personal nature.

To access the data use the DATASETS, or THEMES tabs, find data you are interested in, and view or download the formats you require.

Using The Data

The purpose of open data is for it to be shared and reused, for example to investigate how organisations are performing, or do develop useful applications that can help society. For more information on using open data see the Open Data Institute or the Open Knowledge Foundation.

We take care to ensure that the data published is accurate. However, you should make your own checks before relying on the data.

Data Licences

By default our open data is released under the Open Government Licence v3.0. You are encouraged to use and re-use the data freely and flexibly, with only a few conditions. This document explains these in detail and there is more information on our Terms & Conditions page.

In some cases, because of the nature of the data, it may be necessary to apply a different licence to a dataset. Please always be aware of the licence applied - this is clearly stated wherever you access the dataset - and ensure that the terms of the licence are followed.

Suggesting Data

If the data you are interested in isn't already available on the portal you can suggest datasets that you would like to see published. First you will need to register as a user on Open Data Aberdeen, and then submit a Create Data Request form (only available to registered users). See the Privacy Policy for more information about registration.
